Have you ever stopped to think when or how you learned to read? For many people it is a very natural activity every day of their lives and they actually do not remember the learning process. They feel they have “always” been able to read and do not realize or comprehend that there are over 10,000 people in Sussex County alone that have a zero to low literacy level.

Reading opens the world to us. It allows you to achieve whatever goals you set for yourself. It goes even beyond this in a much broader sense – once a person’s literacy level has improved they can participate and function in community activities, get a job, join civic organizations, etc.

We are thankful that you are reading our website and gaining an understanding of what Literacy Volunteers of Sussex County is all about.
